I felt like this book has so much potential, and that this potential was completely wasted. Our main character, Gene, is likable but two dimensional. This is all I know about him: he works with kids at a hospital, he can do magic tricks, he has clever moments but I wouldnt call him clever, and his mom died when he was younger. Thats all I know about him! And I spent a whole book with him!A book with this sort of plot could have been a stay up late reading kind of thriller, but there was little to no suspense.

The story just crawled along when it could have ran.And the ending.... gosh the ending. If you want to do a twist ending, you have to foreshadow well and subtly. If you dont, you leave the reader thinking things like well, this is how he wanted to end it after about 5 minutes of planning? Did he lose a bet? Also, I wanted more genetics talk, because the topic fascinates me. I felt like just enough was thrown in to make the title make sense.
